Terry's DHEA
Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a “parent hormone” produced by the adrenal glands, liver and, for men, the testes. It’s converted to the hormone androstenedione, and from there into estrogen and testosterone – hormones that are crucial to our health and vitality. In women, estrogen is not only an important reproductive hormone, but it is also crucial in the maintenance of strong bones, healthy heart function and vibrant skin. For men, testosterone is essential for virility, heart health, mood and energy. DHEA levels peak when we’re in our 20s, and start to decrease at about age 30. DHEA is also depleted by some drugs, including insulin, corticosteroids and opiates.
